Quick answer

How to set up IPTV on MAG Box

Register your MAG set-top box's hardware MAC address (found on the device barcode label) with your provider for middleware authorization, enter the Server Portal URL into the Inner Portal system settings, and verify system clock synchronization for accurate EPG schedules.

Prerequisites

What You'll Need Before Setup

Infomir MAG Set-Top Box

Hardware

MAG 322, 420, 520, 524, 540 or compatible STB with original remote and HDMI cable.

Wired Ethernet Connection

Network

Direct LAN cable from your router to the MAG box (strongly recommended over USB Wi-Fi).

Portal Middleware Firmware

System

Built-in Stalker / Ministra portal middleware with correct time zone and optional NTP server synchronization.

Registered MAC & Portal URL

Service

Your box's physical MAC address registered with TryIPTV, paired with the Server Portal URL provided in your activation details.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step-by-Step Installation Guide for MAG Box

Follow this 7-step sequence to configure your IPTV player, load channel bouquets, and verify live stream playback.

STEP 01

Locate your MAG MAC address on the device label

MAG set-top boxes authenticate via hardware MAC address registered with your service provider. Turn your box over and find the MAC address on the barcode sticker (many Infomir MAG models begin with the IEEE vendor prefix 00:1A:79, though specific prefixes may vary depending on hardware revision and manufacturer).

STEP 02

Connect your MAG box using a wired Ethernet cable

While select MAG models support Wi-Fi adapters, a wired Ethernet cable is strongly recommended. Dedicated set-top boxes are designed for consistent wired network throughput, helping prevent packet loss during live streaming.

STEP 03

Access the Inner Portal system settings during boot

Power on your MAG box. To access embedded system settings: if the box is on a loading screen, press and hold the Setup / Gear button on your remote. Alternatively, reboot the box and press the SET button while the loading bar appears until the Inner Portal screen is displayed.

STEP 04

Enter the Server Portal URL

From the Inner Portal home screen, navigate to System Settings > Servers > Portals. In the Portal 1 Name field, enter a label such as TryIPTV. In the Portal 1 URL field, enter the exact portal address provided in your activation email (e.g., http://portal.example.com/c/). Verify all punctuation and trailing slashes.

STEP 05

Configure the NTP Time Server

In Servers > General, verify the NTP server setting (such as pool.ntp.org). Infomir recommends maintaining accurate network time synchronization to ensure proper operation of electronic program guide (EPG) schedules and secure network connections.

STEP 06

Save settings and reload into the service portal

Press Exit until you return to the main System Settings menu. Select Reboot device (or Reload Portal). The box will restart, connect to the provider middleware, and load your channel directory and guide.

Infomir MAG Set-Top Box Architecture

Infomir MAG set-top boxes are dedicated Linux-based appliances designed specifically for IPTV and telecommunications operators:

  • Middleware Integration: MAG boxes run native client software designed to communicate with carrier middleware servers (such as Ministra / Stalker).
  • MAC Authentication: Account access is tied directly to the device's registered network MAC address rather than a standard username and password login screen.
  • Dedicated Remote Navigation: Dedicated buttons on the MAG remote (EPG, Channel List, Audio, and colored function keys) provide direct hardware-level navigation.

Inner Portal vs Outer Portal

Understanding the distinction between portals helps during configuration and troubleshooting:

  • Inner Portal (Embedded Firmware): The local firmware interface provided by Infomir on the device. It contains hardware diagnostics, network configuration, video resolution settings, and portal URL entry fields.
  • Outer Portal (Service Portal): The remote interactive interface loaded from the service provider's middleware server once connected.

To access the Inner Portal to adjust settings after a portal has loaded, restart the box and press the SET button during startup.

Configuring NTP for Time Synchronization on MAG Boxes

Setting an active Network Time Protocol (NTP) server is a recommended configuration step on MAG set-top boxes:

  • MAG boxes synchronize their system clock over the network upon startup. If the device clock is out of sync, timestamps on SSL connections may fail validation, and the electronic program guide (EPG) can display incorrect program schedules.
  • Infomir recommends configuring an active NTP server address (such as pool.ntp.org) under Settings > Servers > General and selecting your local timezone.

Troubleshooting Common MAG Box Status Messages

If your MAG box encounters an issue during startup, reference these common scenarios:

  • 'Your STB is blocked. Call the provider': Indicates that the device's MAC address is not currently recognized or activated on the provider middleware. Confirm that the MAC address registered on your account matches your device label.
  • 'Page loading error': The portal URL was entered incorrectly or the device cannot reach the internet. Check the portal address spelling, including protocol and trailing slashes, and verify local network connectivity.
  • Display aspect ratio issues: In Inner Portal Settings > Video, set Graphic Resolution to Same as Video or match your television's native display mode.

MAG Hardware Compatibility and Video Codecs

Hardware capabilities vary across MAG generations:

  • Legacy Models (e.g., MAG 250, 254, 322): Older generation devices support H.264 video decoding up to 1080p Full HD, but do not support newer HEVC (H.265) 4K compression standards.
  • Modern Models (e.g., MAG 520, 524, 540): Powered by modern Amlogic chipsets supporting 4K resolution and HEVC (H.265) video decoding.

If you use an older legacy model, upgrading to a modern MAG model or an Android TV device provides support for modern video codecs.
